While listening to The Electric Soft Parade’s latest album, No Need To Be DownHearted, I quickly felt sedated. This album is built on elusive and beautifully aerial sounds that can make you feel as cheerily carefree as the yellow Teletubby in a green pasture, which is odd considering the bulk of the lyrics are about self-reflection. Although No Need To Be DownHearted is a fairly uncomplicated sonic version of pop-rock, the final product is far from antiquated.

If you are familiar with The Electric Soft Parade’s previous releases, you probably noticed something different about their current album. Well, in a bold move the White brothers from Brighton bypassed the professional studio and decided to humbly construct their very own love child. Whether or not you believe that was a wise choice is up to your ears. No Need To Be DownHearted reminds me of those stereogram (magic eye) paintings, the ones where you have to un-focus your eyes yet gaze into it fiercely in order to see the hidden picture that resides beneath the obvious exterior. If you can’t see the underlying picture of this album, just walk away because the longer you spend trying to “Get It,” the more frustrated you will become. One thing’s for sure, this album will either sooth your inner turmoil or annoy the hell out of you. Stand Out Tracks: If That’s The Case, Then I Don’t Know, Life In The Back-Seat, Woken By A Kiss
