Idol hands are apparently the devil’s playground but there are countless options for keeping that beast at bay, no need to get all drastic. Thankfully, Cut Off Your Hands is just a whimsical band name for a quartet of fresh New Zealanders and not a dare. Rooted in a style of hyper garage rock, the Shaky Hands EP offers 6 tracks that are short, sweet and to the point, there are no long drawn out battles to reach the final verse.

The quick guitar riffs and manically paced drums create an energy that might antagonize a few quick hops and certainly a few head sways. Cut Off Your Hands’ appeal really shines when their music sounds impromptu, like when Nick adds a heartfelt sigh or an extended annunciation. Their EP is more about the induced attitude and an underlying swagger, it doesn’t seem as if they constructed these songs to break a mold or to win some kind of literary award. This is obvious when you find yourself humming along with the words not really knowing what the heck is being said. But sometimes, undefined beautiful noise is the perfect call. Since Shaky Hands is not a very time consuming EP the lack of sound experimentation is not too deterring. However, if Cut Off Your Hands decides to mix things up a bit and stray from that niche they settled into, their upcoming full-length album should be a blast.

Cut Off Your Hands is currently touring Australia and will be back in the States later this spring / early summer for the release of their debut album.
