Colour Revolt’s debut album Plunder, Beg, And Curse is a musical compilation that you want to breathe with; don’t rush to a conclusion because it might take a second glance to fully appreciate its beauty.  Although the album as a whole swims in a mid-tempo indie-rock pool, their Mississippi roots seem to add a bluesy undertone.  Plunder, Beg, And Curse is a coarse package with a gentle film that overlays the grit.

At times Colour Revolt uses multiple guitars to create a raunchy infusion of edgy sounds; however, when toned down and separated the simplicity is just as powerful.  The album pulsates out of your speakers forming an atmosphere of sound that will stalk you like a slowly moving beast in the shadows. Instinct might beckon you to flee but curiosity and bliss paralyze the urge, so you simply wait to be devoured.  It is rather easy to get entranced by the melodies and crooning that you overlook the lyrics, but this is somewhat of a crime because the poetic nature of Coppenbarger’s words is a crucial element and at times the backbone of their songs.

(Naked & Red)
God is swinging from the liquor tree
Licking everything he finds
God knows all about you and me
Lucky I got something to hide

Well all along in the evergreens
Baby’s got a soul to steal
I know you and you know me
Maybe we can make a deal

During the albums progression, Colour Revolt stays on a specific trail that might lead listeners to believe that some of the songs are too melded together, but the album is full of well-crafted subtleties that prevents a cloud from overcasting the individuality of each track.  Plunder, Beg, And Curse is soothing yet a bit irate at times, which adds some welcomed unpredictability.
