While the buzz surrounding The Drums has been humming for some time now, I finally had the opportunity to listen to their latest EP, ‘Summertime!’, which was released about two weeks ago via TwentySeven. It seems as if The Drums mixed the sounds of 50’s surf-rock with 80’s new wave, and topped it off with a modern indie-pop cherry. No matter the formula, the outcome works…it works marvelously, because the ‘Summertime!’ EP is completely contagious. Currently my favorite track on the record is the leisurely, lo-fi, Frankie Valli esque, “Down By The Water”.
Also, it looks as if the original duo, Jonathan Pierce and Jacob Graham, added a couple of new members to The Drums’ lineup.
