MGMT-Album-CoverI’ve got a sneaking suspicion that the vast majority of music blog frequenters have already heard, downloaded and shimmied to the latest MGMT song, “Flash Delirium”.   However, I don’t want to forgo mentioning it based on an unfounded (but probably accurate) assumption.

So without further ado, here’s a little snippet of MGMT’s forthcoming album, ‘Congratulations’, which is due out April 13th via Sony/Columbia.

Take A Listen: Flash Delirium from MGMT

Update: Apparently “Flash Delirium” will not be a track on their forthcoming album.

MGMT’s Ben Goldwasser gave Spinner the scoop behind “Flash Delirium” with the following explanation: “When we first wrote that song, we were laughing so hard [...]Andrew [VanWyngarden] just reminded me of that, that we thought it was the funniest thing we’d ever heard. And then we got used to it, it started to sound more normal. It’s not a single, but we thought it was a good way to entice people to listen to the whole record. I’m sure there are plenty of people who think it’s completely weird and not what they were expecting [...] I’m sorry [...] We’re trying to come to grips with that world. It’s not our world. We don’t feel comfortable in it. But we didn’t want to make that typical second album either, about fame. So we’re definitely observing it, as opposed to revelling in it.”

I’m impatiently awaiting May 11th to arrive, not because it’s mi madre’s b-day, but because I need some new National in my life.  The National just stopped by Fallon for a live performance of ‘High Violet’s’ opening track, “Terrible Love”.

Phosphorescent-Taking-It-EaLooks like the folkish delight, Phosphorescent, will be releasing a new album entitled, ‘Here’s to Taking it Easy’, on May 11th via Dead Oceans.

Here’s a little bit of album insight (Dead Oceans):
Featuring the current live incarnation of Phosphorescent (Scott Stapleton, piano; Jeff Bailey, bass; Chris Marine, drums; Jesse Anderson Ainslie, guitar; Ricky Ray Jackson, pedal steel), ‘Here’s to Taking It Easy’ is the new Cosmic American Music.  Recorded in the band’s hometown of Brooklyn with outside mixing assistance from Stuart Sikes (White Stripes, Cat Power, Loretta Lynn, the Walkmen), this album breathes with life like nothing Phosphorescent has ever done before.  “We’ll Be Here Soon” and “Hej, Me I’m Light” hint at the narcotic haze of Pride, while anthems like “The Mermaid Parade” and “It’s Hard to Be Humble (When You’re From Alabama)” sound perfect pumped out of the car stereo with the windows rolled down. “Heaven, Sittin’ Down” recalls the country rock of To Willie, while the stark album closer, “Los Angeles” sounds as if it was lifted from the grooves of Neil Young’s On the Beach.

Take A Listen: It’s Hard To Be Humble (When You’re From Alabama) from Phosphorescent

It has certainly been awhile, but here’s a new track from Rah Digga produced by Nottz.  “Warning Shots” is a welcome change of pace from the hip-hop floating around radio waves these days.  Wonder Years anyone?

PsychobuildingsI’ve only known about the existence of Psychobuildings for three days now, but I must say, I’m really enjoying their style…musically and physically (see picture above; that beard alone is marvelous).  This Brooklyn dwelling three-piece started as Peter LaBier’s solo project but expanded to include Peter Schuette (Silk Flowers) and Juan Pieczanski (Small Black).  Their debut 7″, ‘Birds of Prey’, which consists of the b-side, “Paradise”, is currently available in limited edition over at All Hands Electric.
