The Great GoogaMooga will be taking place at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park on May 19th & 20th.  There will be a bounty of food and drinks at GoogaMooga, but isn’t it really about the music (I’m projecting)…The Roots, Hall & Oates, Holy Ghost!, Bear Hands, Fort Lean, etc…see below for complete lineup.  While it looks like all of the free tickets have been consumed, you can still buy tickets here.

Gorillaz, Andre 3000 and James Murphy teamed up on the track, “DoYaThing,” for Converse’s, 3 Artists, 1 Song, campaign. You can download the song free of charge on the Converse website.  “New word, onomatopoeia, boom.”

Along with news that you can download a 6-track sampler of the Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross scored, ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ soundtrack, came the full version of Reznor and Karen O’s cover of Led Zeppelin’s, “Immigrant Song.” While the cover maintains that primal edge of the original, the industrial pulse along with O’s feminine cries somewhat alter the veracity. This track should fit in nicely with the movie (based on the trailers that I’ve seen).

Score! Frightened Rabbit just unveiled a new three-track EP, ‘A Frightened Rabbit,’ which you can download now, free of charge here. Or, you can stream the three tracks here. The band is also releasing ‘A Frightened Rabbit’ as a limited-edition 10″ vinyl, which will be available on October 31st via Atlantic.

Throughout the summer, the Adult Swim Singles Program will be offering up free tracks from artists like, The Tallest Man On Earth, The Rapture, Best Coast..etc.  The first single is “Too Much MIDI (Please Forgive Me)”, from Ford & Lopatin, and you can grab the mp3 over at Adult Swim.   The next single will be released tomorrow, June 14th.

Looks like The White Stripes have split as a duo (sad). They posted the announcement on their website:

“The White Stripes would like to announce that today, February 2nd, 2011, their band has officially ended and will make no further new recordings or perform live.

The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health. It is for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve What is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way.

Meg and Jack want to thank every one of their fans and admirers for the incredible support they have given throughout the 13 plus years of the White Stripes’ intense and incredible career.  Third Man Records will continue to put out unreleased live and studio recordings from The White Stripes in their Vault Subscription record club, as well as through regular channels.

Both Meg and Jack hope this decision isn’t met with sorrow by their fans but that it is seen as a positive move done out of respect for the art and music that the band has created.  It is also done with the utmost respect to those fans who’ve shared in those creations, with their feelings considered greatly.

With that in mind the band have this to say:

“The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to.  Thank you for sharing this experience. Your involvement will never be lost on us and we are truly grateful.”

One trend I am noticing is that Kanye West’s, ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’, if not placed at number 1, is high up in the rankings. Guess I missed that memo.
