Apparently competitive eaters, like Kobayashi, eat small amounts of food prior to their huge pig-out session in order to stretch their stomach muscles. It’s no secret that SXSW is right around the corner, but did you know about the two festivals taking place this coming weekend (start tomorrow)?
There is the second annual fundraiser, ‘Harvest of Hope Foundation Music and Arts Festival’, which takes place on March 12-14th and located at the St. Johns County Fairgrounds in St. Augustine, Florida. The line-up includes bands such as: Freelance Whales, Bear in Heaven, Dr. Dog, Broken Social Scene, The Mountain Goats, Rogue Wave, Anti-Flag, Sea Wolf, Delta Spirit, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Dead Confederate, A Wilhelm Scream, Portugal. the Man…and more. Than there is ‘Foburg’, the music festival organized by The New Orleans Indie Rock Collective that takes place on March 12-14th at Frenchmen St in New Orleans. The line-up includes bands such as: Caddywhompus, My Name Is John Michael, Sun Hotel, The Pharmacy, The Bears of Blue River, The Blue Party, Silent Cinema, Brass Bed…and more. So if you’re heading to SXSW maybe you can stretch your belly with one of these festivals, and if you’re not descending upon the city of Austin on the 17th, perhaps you can fulfill your appetite with either Foburg or Harvest of Hope.

Tickets go on sale this Friday (1/22/10) @ 10am via Ticketmaster. Three-day weekend passes are $269 ( plus surcharges)…single-day prices have not been revealed yet. The 18th annual Noise Pop Festival will take place February 23rd through March 1st (2010) at venues throughout San Francisco. Early artist confirmations include: Magnetic Fields, Mark Kozelek, Rogue Wave, Atlas Sound, The Soundtrack of Our Lives, Four Tet, John Vanderslice, We Were Promised Jet Packs, Wallpaper, Zee Avi, The Limousines & Foreign Born. More shows will be announced in the coming weeks along with films, art shows, and more.
Industry Noise will take place on Saturday, February 27th, 2010 at the Swedish American Hall in San Francisco. Noise Pop’s mini-conference discusses independent music, technology, and the changing industry. Attendees can meet industry pros, listen to influential speakers, advance their artistic and business ventures, and learn more about current possibilities and opportunities. In addition to panels and speakers, there are small discussion groups and individual mentoring. Panelists and Keynote speakers will be announced soon. Industry Noise Badges go on sale on December 9th for $65 or $50 along with the purchase of a full festival badge.
Noise Pop 2010 Festival Badges go on sale Wednesday Dec 9th at Noon for $150. A limited number of badges include access to the Magnetic Fields show at the Fox Theater on Saturday February 27th, or the Herbst Theater on Monday March 1st. Tickets to individual shows go on sale December 12th.
