Thom Yorke and his new band made their live debut this past weekend

Radiohead’s Thom Yorke debuted new material with an all-star backing band at an intimate venue in Los Angeles this past weekend.

The frontman rolled out several tunes with the new band (yet to be named), which featured Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, REM collaborator Joey Waronker, Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Mauro Refosco, and producer Nigel Godrich. Tickets for the last-minute “secret” gig at the Echoplex were at a premium, selling out in a matter of minutes and reportedly being scalped online for as much as $3,000. Continue Reading (NME)

New music from Radiohead – Harry Patch (In Memory Of)

Radiohead just released a new track titled, ‘Harry Patch (In Memory Of)’ as a tribute to Harry Patch, who was the last surviving UK veteran of WWI until his recent passing at the age of 111. For the price of £1 you can download the track at download.waste.uk.com, and the proceeds will go to the Royal British Legion charity.

Here is what Thom had to say:
Recently the last remaining UK veteran of the 1st world war Harry Patch died at the age of 111. I had heard a very emotional interview with him a few years ago on the Today program on Radio4. The way he talked about war had a profound effect on me. It became the inspiration for a song that we happened to record a few weeks before his death. It was done live in an abbey. The strings were arranged by Jonny. I very much hope the song does justice to his memory as the last survivor. It would be very easy for our generation to forget the true horror of war, without the likes of Harry to remind us. I hope we do not forget. As Harry himself said “Irrespective of the uniforms we wore, we were all victims”.

The 2009 Grammys, the biggest night in music (umm, if you say so)

Is it weird that I write about music and feel obligated to stay abreast of music news, yet I really don’t care about The Grammys? I did however, watch the performances last night and there were a couple that deserve a nod…Radiohead and Coldplay. The biggest news from The Grammys this year, ya know, the biggest night in music…Chris Brown and Rihanna apparently got into a lovers quarrel and were both no-shows. Gasp.
