Tempo No Tempo have been a band, in some form, since meeting back at Berkeley in 2004. Starting out as a five piece band, then sizing down to a four part band, Te
mpo No Tempo shrunk down once again with the recent departure of keyboardist/singer Chris Cadena. Now comprised of three members, the band’s new output embraces their love of African polyrhythm, noisy punk and dance labels, like DFA and Modular. Working with three sets of hands, the band uses their guitar-drums-bass setup to create complexity out of minimal post-punk jams. They’ve grown out of their old indie rock shell and shifted to something weirder, funkier and harder to pinpoint.
Tempo No Tempo’s 2009 calendar includes dates at Noise Pop, SXSW and shows with Women (Jagjaguwar) and Chad VanGaalen (Sub Pop)…plus the release of their debut LP (this summer).

I just came across another dulcet track from Tempo No Tempo’s recently released debut album, ‘Waking Heat’. Even with an expeditious drum beat and sharp guitar riffs backing him, McCauley took a calm vocal route, and the outcome is a notably well balanced track titled, “Kilometer”.
