the-soft-pack

Yes, it is true, The Muslims have changed their name to, The Soft Pack.  I for one am a huge fan of their music but I am not too sure about the new moniker.  “The Soft Pack” brings to mind some dirty things as well as that waist pack/bag thingy that my mom wears when we go to theme parks. (Sorry for calling you out madre)

When asked why they changed their name, guitarist Matty McLoughlin told Spinner, “We hated the band name and the completely ignorant, stupid annoying s— that came along with it.”

“It just became a day-to-day hassle,” McLoughlin says. “We all have wanted to change it for about a year now.”  Well, whatever their name is, I am looking forward to hearing the new album, which is due out sometime this year.

I just happened on The Muslims this weekend while digging around the web. I can’t say I know much about the band itself, but their music is full of greatness. In a world of electronically juiced up overproduced bands The Muslims prove there is still good, old fashioned, rough around the edges music, played on, get this: guitars, bass and drums. The plain and simple, minimalist take on punk/rock/whatnot is just what I have been looking for lately, and these guys definitely hit the spot. I would love to see the tracks from their 12″and 7″s up on iTunes. And someone please, for the love of god, get this band to play a show in Tampa.

Listen to:  Beside Myself
