This year has certainly seen its fair share of album releases already, so many in fact, I undoubtedly missed some good stuff, but, two recent LPs have been burning up my ipod battery; The National’s, ‘High Violet’, and The Radio Dept.’s, ‘Clinging To A Scheme’.  While I liked both albums right off the bat, time and attention was definitely needed to soak in the individual qualities of each compilation.  I was relieved by ‘High Violet’ (my fingers were crossed) and pleasantly surprised by ‘Clinging To A Scheme’.  If you haven’t already, I recommend checking them out.

The Radio Dept.’s forthcoming album, ‘Clinging To A Scheme’, will officially be released next month (March) April 21st through Labrador Records’ online store.

If you are a fan of shoegazing than you might want to run out and get a new pair of kicks before you take a listen to The Radio Dept’s music. This Swedish band is known for their soft, non-threatening beats and poetic lyrics that are delivered through a muffled vocal tone. Although The Radio Dept’s latest album Pet Grief is built on serenely tender sounds that have the ability to invoke a meditative like state of consciousness the lyrical implications are somewhat morose.

The focus of Pet Grief remains fixated upon instrumental expression, which is obvious from the various levels of layers and mixed melodies. If you are looking for a tranquil bedtime story or some music to accompany your melancholic mood, than The Radio Dept is an ideal choice. Pet Grief maintains a leisurely pace throughout the entire album, which at times makes it difficult to immediately notice the unique qualities of each song.
